In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, the One to be praised for His blessings and blessings, glory be to Him, and His Messengers and Prophets to be prayed for, and may blessings and peace be upon our master Muhammad, the faithful Arab Prophet, and upon all his family and companions.

 The Department of Criminal Law is considered one of the four academic departments at the College of Law. Since its founding, its distinguished professors have been teaching criminal law subjects, both in the Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code, and the ancillary criminal sciences associated with these subjects, most notably criminology, penology, and criminal policy science, to enable students to obtain a bachelor’s degree with due consideration.  Educational outcomes must be commensurate with the labor market.

 So that students graduate qualified to practice the profession of public or private law, or to practice judicial work in the Public Prosecution Service or the Judiciary, after they receive the complementary specialized courses approved by the relevant laws.

 In agreement with the policy of the College of Law and its faculty members, it was one of our priorities to pay attention to the development of scientific research as a main foundation and assistant to the advancement of our educational institution, and for its fundamental role in the progress of society and the prosperity of the homeland of Libya.

 Accordingly, the department’s professors teach the preparatory stage subjects for postgraduate studies and supervise the master’s theses prepared by students to obtain the master’s degree in criminal law, within the framework of the climate that the university provides for the college, enabling it to carry out its role of engaging in scientific research and publishing research results in local, regional, and international periodicals.

 University theses completed in the context of completing the requirements for obtaining a master's or doctoral degree are an important part of university scientific research and one of its episodes.

 Therefore, the department’s professors have completed presenting a project to open a department for the doctoral program that will enable students to obtain a doctorate degree in criminal law. It is based on a preliminary stage in which some of the department’s subjects are studied in depth, after which a doctoral dissertation can be registered.

 The master’s thesis differs from the doctoral thesis in terms of purpose, function, and content. The former aims to provide students with the research skills that enable them to address the research problem in a scientific manner, while the doctoral thesis is based on addressing a highly specialized problem that is unique in its depth and originality, with the aim of providing innovative solutions to it based on...  A deep understanding of the basics of the specialty.

 One of the advantages of this department is that it includes faculty members who have obtained certificates from different universities, that is, various schools of jurisprudence, which enables the student to benefit from multiple cultures in criminal law. The department always seeks to develop criminal law studies in a way that serves the interest of the country by taking advantage of various situations.  Which passed and passes through Libya and seeks to protect the rights and freedoms of the citizen
